Polyester is a category of polymers which contain the ester functional group in their main chain. Although there are many polyesters, the term “polyester” as a specific material most commonly refers to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) (Wikipedia). There are actually various other letters that can appear after the name polyester (e.g., Polyester E, Polyester R and Polyester R-Tek). The letter(s) after the word polyester is oftentimes applied as a form of generic name extension used to identify the type or usage of the polyester or for other branding purposes.
